This blog is dedicated to the Asian diaspora of my second generation experience in America. Growing up with naturalized citizens in San Francisco led me on an interesting path, being a tourist of various faiths. I feel fortunate to have been raised by Buddhist parents, blessed with a Black Southern Baptist godmother, baptized by Catholics, schooled by Protestants and the Jewish community. In my adolescence, I moved between California to the Midwest and occasionally the East Coast. I accompanied my family on trips to Asia, until I was confronted with the choice of cultural identity. I am American. The content featured here represents specific ideas, people, and events that left an impression on me.
My literary influences are Vonnegut, Camus and Hesse. At the heart of it are my parents, their words in Chinese as harsh as a gong, all beauty and meaning lost in translation. And last but not least, The Diamond Sutra.
